In order to be an effective writing tutor, I must first take the time to fully understand the assignment, the purpose for writing, or the rhetorical situation. Discussing those preliminaries with the writer ensure that their efforts are correctly directed before addressing their specific concerns. My tutoring sessions usually end with a return to the assignment to ensure that my joint effort with the writer has accomplished our goal and that the draft satisfies the requirements.
