About Sascha
Why Me? I have got an earned PhD ("Das Gedächtnis der Reichsstadt") and MA from the University of Göttingen (published as "Mehr Angst vor dem Offizer...?"), cradle of modern historical scholarship. Both theses were published and received excellent evaluations in leading academic review journals. 20+ years of teaching experience across several countries and academic systems (Senior Lecturer [PTL] University of Louisville, Quality Leadership University Panama City, Lecturer: Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Helmut Schmidt Universität der Bundeswehr / Federal Army) with excellent evaluations, including two "Student Champion" awards from the University of Louisville. 10 years experience as Memorial-Museum Director in Germany, extensive experience working with universities and schools. I combine extensive experience with all levels of historical writing and internationally recognized publications and strong academic background (including "The Psychology of Honor" (co-authored with my wife Katrin) and Vol. 4 of Bloomsbury's "Cultural History of War", Dissertation published in "Formen der Erinnerung", one of the leading German academic series on memory studies and public history, nine books (four monographies, five (co)edited volumes) and 30 scientific articles in academic journals and high-quality anthologies. My deep understanding of how exams actually work combines with strict ethical standards: I train skills, not shortcuts. I am multilingual (German, English, Spanish, classical Greek, Latin) and students appreciate my combination of high academic expertise, warmth, clarity, and to work with them on exactly the next step which they have to take to improve their scientific skills.

My Teaching Approach
I combine the rigor of a European research university (PhD, University of Göttingen) with twenty years of university teaching experience with excellent evaluations in the United States, Germany, and Panama and internationally recognized publications.
My approach is clear, structured, and highly individualized: I teach students how to think historically, how to write analytically, and how to meet or exceed the expectations of their specific academic program.
I work with a dual-layer method:
(1) real historical understanding, based on scholarly standards, and
(2) exam-oriented strategies, tailored to AP rubrics, college requirements, or graduate-level expectations.
This ensures both deep learning and excellent results.
I never produce work for students. Instead, I teach them how to develop original, ethical, academically sound writing and research.
I use guided practice, short targeted exercises, and model answers. Students leave each session with concrete tools they can apply immediately.
How does a Lesson Look Like?
Although every lesson is personalized, a standard session often includes:
Goal setting: What does the student need right now (exam, essay, research plan)?
Targeted instruction: Techniques tailored to the student’s level (e.g., AP SAQ structures, college-level thesis building, or PhD argument revision).
Applied practice: Working through a passage, source, question, or draft together.
Expert feedback: Clear, constructive comments that show how to improve—not just what to change.
Take-home plan: A short, specific list of next steps to keep progress steady between sessions.
My lessons are calm, structured, and student-centered. No stress, no judgment—just clear guidance.
What do I Teach?
AP European History

College students in History, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Whether you need support preparing for an AP exam, crafting a strong college essay, improving university coursework, or navigating the complexities of a graduate thesis or dissertation — I provide the tools and guidance to help you succeed.
Please notice: My tutoring is not connected to the University of Louisville or Quality leadership University in any way and I don't accept students from these institutions for reasons of scientific integrity.

I am pleased to recommend Sascha, a talented historian whose work demonstrates a rare ability to weave together war with social history. He brings rigorous archival research, insightful analysis, and a clear, engaging style of communication to every project.
I took a summer course on Communism in Eastern Europe with Professor Moebius and he was always available to mentor and tutor and give me the support I needed to master the materiel. He is very quick to reply to emails and messages and always makes the time when you need him. A joy to work with and a man with a wealth of knowledge.
Sascha is a leading historian in the field of eighteenth-century warfare. It has been a pleasure to read his publications and work with him on research projects. He is friendly, supportive and knowledgeable, and students would be very fortunate to be taught by him.
I worked with Sascha when I was editor of one of Spain’s leading military history magazines, DESPERTA FERRO - HISTORIA MODERNA. Sascha is a great writer who knows all aspects of academic writing from finding substantial primary and secondary sources to writing a vivid and thoroughly researched story. And you have a great time with him, he can turn hard scientific work into a good time - with superb results. I would recommend him to any student, who wants to get the skills to write a brilliant thesis on all academic levels.
