About Angel

Hi there,
I hope my profile finds you well.
I am a passionate Biomedical scientist with experience of tutoring students for over 2 years in Maths, English language/literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics subjects of KS3, GCSE and IGCSEs. Being a highly dedicated tutor, I would be more than happy to help you achieve the grades you want in your exams and can help boost your confidence which in turn would lead to a significant growth in your results. Having tutored 800+ hours, I know exactly the tools and the resources you need to excel your exams and I tend to keep my lessons highly organised, engaging and interactive which will keep your learning fun at the same time. Moreover, I have had experience of working as a Teaching Assistant for over a year at a secondary school during pandemic, where I taught EAL and SEN kids of all calibre and ages; and helped bridge their gaps in several topics that the students missed during lockdown. My patience, understanding and easy-going nature will help bring out the best in you and will help you think outside the box. If you feel that this will benefit you, please reach out to me and I will support you by all means.
Many thanks,
Angel.

My techniques and methodologies for teaching are very organised and pre-planned before I start any lessons. I, first, analyse and collect a list of topics the student is struggling in and then tailor my lessons accordingly to best cover that particular topic. I believe preparation is the key and using different websites, worksheets, videos and flashcards are highly interactive to help explain any difficult concepts to my students.

As a person who is very dedicated and trust-worthy, please be reassured that I will aim to bring out the best for the student and help them achieve whatever grades they aspire to get! I keep my lessons very productive, yet engaging for the maximum benefit of the student and have the experience to teach students of all ages up to and including KS3, GCSEs, IGCSEs and IB students.

Having achieved an Upper 2.1 class in BSc Biochemistry (Hons) from University of Hertfordshire and receiving a Merit in my masters in Biomedical Sciences from University college London, I am highly experienced in teaching students of all calibre, in particular subjects including English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Please feel free to reach out to me and I would be very happy to hearing from you.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in private tutoring after completing my Master’s degree in Biomedical sciences. During this time, I undertook an opportunity to work as a Teaching Assistant at a secondary school for a year where I taught Maths, English (Language and Literature) and Triple Sciences to students of all capabilities, including students with EAL and SEN needs. This work experience made me realise that I would like to continue to share my knowledge and skills to students and help them achieve better grades in their subjects. Hence, I chose to serve as a private tutor and knowing that this occupation allows me to help shape the future of today’s youth in a positive direction makes me happy!
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

There are many favourite subjects of mine that I like to teach. These subjects include English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to and including KS3 and GCSEs. I am comfortable teaching mostly all of the topics listed within the curriculum of these subjects in depth for various exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel and OCR. The knowledge I provide will enable the students to answer the difficult questions with ease and will help sharpen their exam technique skills.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I remember I had an amazing maths teacher who inspired me to never give up even when the questions started to become difficult. He always ensured that the lessons were made interactive, engaging and fun! Simultaneously, he encouraged students to ask questions when in doubt while he answered these questions in a very patient and methodical manner. His teaching style has incorporated into my own and I am proud to say that I am following on from his teachings.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

In order to be an exceptional tutor, one must have the ability to share and explain knowledge in a specific manner that is understandable to their students. It’s all about providing guidance in the topics the student struggles with; either by demonstrating various real-life examples or by helping students being organised with their books/notes and keeping on top of their workloads. I believe providing useful feedback to the parents along with tracking their child’s progress is also a great quality a tutor can possess.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the valuable lessons I have learnt from my school days is this quote that was often used by my maths teacher to discipline the class; he always said, ‘’Empty vessels make the most noise’’. Upon hearing this, the entire class always used to go silent to try and understand the meaning behind this quote but eventually, I realised that one should only really speak when asked to and to simply put forward their knowledge where appropriate! This quote was in fact quite valuable as it taught us the importance of listening to teachers which served as a great skill later in our life.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the challenges faced by students in their school time is the lack of appropriate guidance and the uncertainty on the various topics covered by the teachers for the particular subject. However, this could be eradicated by keeping organised and pre-planning each and every lesson in advance. Additionally, identifying the gaps and working towards the topics that are found difficult by the students can boost their confidence and prevents any chances of confusion later on during their revision for exams.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is my main passion and it is something I am naturally able to do. My other passions also include life sciences, badminton, reading and travelling to different destinations.
  • What makes you a SuperProf (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

My ability to make a positive impact on students’ lives and helping them achieve success in their chosen fields is what makes me a SuperProf!
