About Aloki
My academic work has primarily focused on poetry and novels, spanning genres from sci-fi and fantasy to realism. I am particularly interested in religious poetry - from the early modern period to more contemporary works - and I am also a fan of the Romantic movement. My undergraduate dissertation was on John Keats’ odes - if you are familiar with them! His odes are more spiritual and humanist rather than religious, yet they still contain lots of interesting existential reflections. I specifically focused on how Keats dealt with the temporary nature of human life and emotion which was slightly sad, but super fun to explore nonetheless! For my master’s dissertation I looked at the works of William Blake and his unique nonconformist Christian ideology that rejected organised religion.

My lessons typically run for an hour and are tailored to each student’s needs, whether that means building essay skills, sharpening exam technique, or deepening understanding of key texts. I use a mix of close reading, discussion, and essay practice tasks to build both confidence and critical thinking skills. I hold a degree in English and a Master’s in Literature and Religion from the University of Edinburgh. My academic background has provided me with sufficient subject knowledge enabling me to support learners of all abilities.
