About Vincenzo
I have been teaching music at the post-secondary level for over a decade and have a Master's degree in Ethnomusicology. I also have my own band and career as a producer, composer and performer. My approach is to deliver creative lessons and discussions that elicit curiosity from students. I believe in the "the why", why did things end up as they are? Who were the players and gatekeepers and activists? What was the zeitgeist at the time? I grew up in a small town in a non-musical family; my only connection to music was the scratched up vinyl records left behind when my older siblings moved out. I was hooked! I read all about the producers, I studied all the info and the back of the covers and if it was a fold out...even more info to absorb. I poured the musician's names, engineers, who created the artwork and any hidden messages contained in the lyrics or pictures. Classic rock posters surrounded my drum set in my room.

I have a 15-part music course designed to teach both beginners and professionals that helps define what it is about music that makes it so powerful. My course covers many topics such as: What makes us hardwired to react to certain notes, harmonies, songs. Technology, The origin story of blues, jazz and popular music-Music of the Americas Influences from other cultures-what is "the other"? I also include musical elements-you will learn about, pitch, dynamics, rhythm, form and many other elements of music. My unique skill set of being a professional musician of over 40 years combined with academia, gives students access to a complete and first hand understanding of how we connect around music.
