My name is Eric Chung, and I am a driven software developer with a unique blend of technical expertise and financial acumen. My experience in data engineering, automation, machine learning, and finance, coupled with my strong project management skills, make me a well-rounded candidate ready to tackle complex challenges and deliver impactful results. I began my career as an intern at the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit, where I contributed to the development of a machine learning model that predicted money laundering cases with 99% accuracy. This experience fueled my passion for merging technology with finance, guiding me toward projects that unlock the power of data for valuation and pricing. At Wellington Management, I had the privilege of working as an Investment Compliance Co-op, where I automated daily reporting processes using VBA. This automation significantly reduced reporting time and allowed the compliance team to focus on strategic business initiatives. During my tenure as a Data Engineer at Amazon, I managed complex workflows and consolidated datasets from diverse internal teams. Despite the inherent challenges of coordinating cross-functional efforts, our team delivered the project ahead of schedule, enhancing both Fulfillment Center deployment transparency and robot efficiency. While I have taken some time off from full-time employment due to personal reasons during the COVID era, I have remained deeply engaged in personal projects to sharpen my skills and explore new technologies. One such project is Sapling, a fundamental equity valuation model I developed using Jupyter Notebooks. By analyzing SEC financial statements and leveraging key financial metrics, I was able to predict the average quarterly stock price with a strong historical backtest, outperforming market rates over the past decade. This project gave me hands-on experience with tools like MongoDB, Pandas, and Sci-Kit Learn, while also deepening my understanding of both fundamental financial health indicators and short-term trading strategies. In today’s data-driven world, product success hinges on our ability to decode and interpret the wealth of information available. My experience has honed my ability to extract meaningful insights from vast datasets and translate those insights into actionable strategies.
