About Freddi

I am a registered speech therapist from Hong Kong, got 8 years of teaching experience in speech therapy, providing professional treatment to individuals with Cantonese oral/listening/reading/writing difficulties. After relocated to the UK, I transferred my skills in speech therapy into Cantonese/Traditional Chinese language teaching. I have met a lot of students with or without a Hong Kong heritage. Hence I am experienced in explaining the cultural side of Hong Kong alongside the teaching of Cantonese. Three keywords to describe my teaching style would be: 1) Visualisations: I use a lot of illustrations (from my favourite website irasutoya.com) 2) Student-centred: I tailor made personal scripts with my students (e.g. some students need a wedding speech, some is heading to Hong Kong to start their new journey) 3) Homework and quizzes: provided after each class to give you just the right amount of practice so that you remember the materials

About the lesson

I adopt a student-centred approach which means the lesson is personalised according to individual needs (e.g. daily communication, exam-oriented, etc) I am experienced in creating original teaching materials involving illustrations, original song and lyrics, as well as movement/dance to maximise students´ learning motivation. You can find my creative work at the following website: (concealed information) My classes for beginners are 80% formal in nature, meaning that you will be learning a number of set materials (sentence structures, scripts, vocab/phrases, daily sentences) designed by me to build your foundation. As you progress, depending on your Cantonese level, we can gradually shift into more informal, casual conversation to build up your Cantonese speaking fluency and listening comprehension. Homework, audio recordings, and quizzes are provided after each class to foster your revision.
