About Christina

Born in Slovakia and raised around the world, I’m a native English and Slovak speaker with a C1 level in French. My international background has given me a strong appreciation for different languages, cultures, and ways of communicating.

I hold a BA in Law and Political Science from Utrecht University and am currently completing an LLM in Public International Law at the University of London. As a student who has studied in an international environment, I understand the challenges of learning languages, adapting to new academic systems, and applying to universities.

I’m friendly, patient, and approachable, and I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I tailor my lessons to each student’s level and goals, whether that means improving everyday conversation, preparing for exams, strengthening academic language, or simply becoming more confident.

I also offer guidance with university and college applications, drawing on my own experience navigating the application process as an international student.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is friendly, personalised, and focused on helping students feel confident using the language in real-life situations. I adapt my lessons to each student’s level, goals, and learning style rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

A typical lesson may begin with a short conversation or review of previous material, followed by a focus on a specific area such as vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, or speaking. I like to combine explanation with practical exercises, conversation, and examples so that students can immediately apply what they have learned. We can also focus on areas the student finds particularly difficult and work at a comfortable pace.

What sets me apart is that I am a native English and Slovak speaker and have a C1 level in French, giving me personal experience with both learning and using different languages. As a student myself, I understand the challenges that come with learning a language and applying for university, which also allows me to offer practical support with college and university applications.

My lessons are suitable for beginners through to more advanced learners, whether you want to improve your everyday communication, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, academic language, or prepare for exams. I also work with students who simply want to practise conversation and become more confident.

For university and college applications, I can help students understand the application process, review written materials, and improve personal statements and other application documents based on my own experience as a student.
