About Alissa J
With over seven years of certified teaching experience, I bring both academic expertise and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. I have taught at Harvard College, Harvard Law School, Boston College Law and Paris Saclay University, mentored students through the United Nations for four years, and worked with learners of all ages, from young beginners to graduate students. As a native French speaker raised by two language-teacher parents, I combine cultural knowledge with a clear, structured approach to language and math instruction. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, whether that means mastering conversational skills, improving pronunciation, strengthening academic performance, or building confidence with challenging material. I am patient, organized, and committed to creating a supportive environment where students feel both comfortable and motivated to reach their goals. — Alissa J

Teaching Method & Techniques I begin by evaluating each student’s current level and understanding of the subject. Together, we set clear, realistic goals, then create a personalized learning plan that reflects both the student’s needs and interests. I adapt my approach depending on whether the student wants to improve pronunciation and conversational fluency, strengthen existing knowledge to excel in school, catch up on missed concepts, or focus on more advanced academic writing and analysis for college-level work. Typical Lesson Plan A lesson usually begins with a review of homework or previous material, followed by time for the student to ask questions and clarify doubts. We then introduce new vocabulary (for French) or a new concept (for Math) and immediately put it into practice through targeted exercises. Each session ends with a quick recap, a chance to address any remaining questions, and optional homework to reinforce learning between lessons. What Sets Me Apart I have taught learners of all ages and backgrounds, from kindergarten through graduate school, and I am equally comfortable helping a young student master the basics as I am guiding a university student through complex material. My teaching style is patient but structured, with a focus on measurable progress and building the student’s confidence. I am genuinely committed to helping students meet their goals, whatever they may be. Who the Lessons Are For My lessons are open to anyone committed to learning, from beginners to advanced students. Whether you are preparing for travel, aiming to improve school performance, or seeking academic excellence in French or Math, I will tailor our work to your specific objectives. — Alissa J.

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I would wholeheartedly recommend Alissa as a tutor in French at any level, and Mathematics at the very least up to end of Middle School. About two years ago, she started tutoring one of my sons in French, and she was so good that now she tutors both 13yo sons both French and Math. Her warm and proactive attidude, her sense of humor, her energy and enthusiasm, coupled with her real-world academic achievements make her the best tutor we have had, and make no mistake, we've had good ones in the past. Should anyone be looking for a tutor, and fortunate enough to have a schedule that lines up with hers, they should certainly give her a chance. They won't regret it.
Alissa has been a wonderful French tutor for our teen. Alissa is able to help clarify areas of where our child needed additional grammatical help, and especially to feel more confident speaking and listening to a native speaker. Alissa is a smart, kind, and engaging instructor, and adapts with ease to provide varied types of instruction to keep things interesting. We highly recommend her!
