About Elke

Hello, my name is Elke. I come from Berlin but have lived abroad in Denmark and South Africa for the last 20 years. Moving a lot means learning new languages. I often found that my teachers talked too much, while I was so eager to say something in the language I learned. I myself therefore try to teach with focus on the student. Encouragement and positive feedback, listening and also laughing together from time to time can enhance the process of learning. I have developed a course for beginners in German, where I teach with a story, avoiding too much grammar and concentrating on sound of the language, learning phrases and whole sentences. It is called " Zwei rote Koffer in Berlin" I taught German in Denmark, both adults and students in grade 7, 8 and 9. In South Africa I taught students at University as well as private students from home. My biggest motivation is the joy I see in people who manage to express themselves in the new language

About the lesson

I have a degree from the German Goethe Institute to teach German as a foreign language. I teach German with focus on the student, meaning he or she is the one who should talk as much as possible. Encouragement , learning from mistakes, repeating newly learnt phrases and using the new language as much as possible are part of it.
