About Kei

I’m a native Japanese speaker currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand, and I love helping people learn Japanese in a fun and supportive way. I’m currently studying for the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test to continue improving my teaching skills.

I have over 3 years of tutoring experience and more than 8 years of language exchange experience, so I enjoy working with students of all levels and backgrounds. I also have 2 years of administrative experience at a Japanese logistics company, so I can help with business Japanese as well.

My goal is to create relaxed and practical lessons where students can feel comfortable, build confidence, and enjoy making progress in Japanese!

About the lesson

I take a flexible, student-centered approach, tailoring lessons to suit each learner’s needs and goals. I focus on practical communication skills while building grammar and vocabulary through conversation and practice.

For beginners, we start with basic phrases and gradually build confidence and skills. For more advanced learners, I can also include complex topics and business Japanese if needed.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, and I offer both in-person and online lessons.

My lessons are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners, including university students and professionals.

He is a highly motivated student who always completes his homework diligently and comes to class with lots of thoughtful questions. Vinny is a very impressive student who has been studying Japanese on Duolingo for over 800 days. He already knows many words and has also learned some kanji. I look forward to continuing our lessons together as he prepares for the JLPT in December.
