About Catherine

I am an ex-competition pianist and have played piano since I was three. I completed my piano levels/exams from The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) at age 12 and competed in competitions from ages 13-17, of which I have received two 1st place awards, among other achievements. I am also a native Mandarin speaker and have five years of tutoring experience with Chinese students in which I taught English and a variety of subjects that equipped me with the skills to translate and transfer between the two languages fluently.

About the lesson

I tailor my lessons to fit each student's needs and strengths, with each session typically lasting an hour to two hours. I have 5 years of tutoring experience and have experience in teaching kids from ages 3-14. My technique for teaching is to use the student's strengths to direct their learning rather than their weaknesses. I also constantly monitor students' progress and change things about the lessons to fit both their learning developments as well as reinstall motivation and a sense of fun into their classes (e.g. change of activities, change of environments).
