My philosophy centers on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) blended with Task-Based Learning. Rather than overwhelming you with memorization and rigid grammar rules right from the start, I focus on helping you use the language actively from Day 1.
Key Techniques:
The 70/30 Rule: You talk 70% of the time; I guide and correct 30% of the time. Practice is where real fluency happens.
Contextual Learning: We practice vocabulary and grammar through real-life scenarios (ordering food, negotiating at a market, chatting with family, or asking for directions in Manila).
Smart Grammar Decoders: Tagalog grammar (like affixations—um-, mag-, i-, -in-) can be tricky. I use simplified color-coded charts and formulas to make verb conjugations clear and easy to grasp.
Cultural Context & Modern Slang: Language is inseparable from culture. I integrate common idioms, polite markers (po/opo), and modern Tagalog slang (Taglish) so you sound natural, not like a textbook.
Every lesson is structured to maximize retention while keeping the energy engaging and interactive.
I provide tailored lesson materials—no generic PDF overload. After every session, you receive a personalized summary document containing the vocabulary, phrases, and error corrections specific to your lesson.
I offer a patient and safe learning environment. Making mistakes is a necessary step toward fluency, so my sessions are supportive, encouraging, and completely judgment-free.
I focus on modern conversational Tagalog. I bridge the gap between formal Tagalog (used in literature) and spoken Tagalog (used in daily life, media, and family gatherings).
You get a flexible pace & ongoing support. Between lessons, you can message me quick questions or send voice notes to keep your momentum going.
My classes are tailored to meet a wide range of learners and goals:
1. Heritage Learners & Diaspora: Filipinos raised abroad looking to reconnect with their roots, speak fluently with parents/grandparents, or pass the language on to their children.
2. Partners & Spouses of Filipinos: Individuals wanting to bond with their partner's family, understand dinner conversations, and fully participate in family gatherings.
3. Expats, Travelers, & Professionals: Anyone moving to, working in, or regularly visiting the Philippines who wants to navigate daily life smoothly and build genuine connections with locals.
4. Complete Beginners to Intermediate Learners:
- Absolute Beginners: Starting from zero with basic greetings, pronunciation, and survival phrases.
- Intermediate: Refining the verb focus system, expanding nuance, and transitioning from slow translation to spontaneous speaking.
