About Gabrielle
I am a neurodiverse high school graduate who enjoys learning and discussing many topics. Informally, I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was in the fourth grade. I have also recently been officially diagnosed with combined ADHD and autistic tendencies. Growing up, I often struggled with the conflict between loving to learn and my difficulty with applying and showcasing that knowledge. I loved to be read The Magic Tree House, but struggled to actually sit down and read it for myself. Later on in life, staying organized and motivated enough to learn, do my homework, and study for quizzes/tests/and exams became excruciating (along with other personal troubles).
But still I have successfully graduated high school with a 3.59 weighted GPA and am currently looking into further education. So I feel capable of providing many unique methods and support for those who may also be struggling to push forward through learning difficulties and struggles. This extends further than people with learning disabilities. There are many unique methods, techniques, and points of view that can be just as helpful and impactful to everyone.
As for topics I am capable to help with are English, literature (American, British, World), writing (creative, essay, proofreading, etc.), history (world history --> Econ./Gov.), science, and math (pre-algebra --> geometry). These are all the required classes for graduating high school, of which I have studied and completed with either an A or a B.
Other more optional or unusual classes I have also completed include digital technology, bible, graphics and design, anatomy/zoology, personal finance, geography, mythology, American Sign Language, and environmental science. All of which I achieved an A or B grade in as well.
Additionally, I have taken around 5 years of the All About Reading program with an experienced tutor. This program covers many American spelling and phonics rules, their exceptions, and how to identify Greek/French/ and Anglo-Saxon suffixes.

The hardest thing that school tries to set you up for is finding and utilizing productivity and organization methods best suited for you. I aim to help you discover and utilize the best methods for you or your child.
I am a high school graduate who is currently pursuing further education, so I feel best suited for those between 6th-10th grade, though I can provide services for those who are slightly younger or older.
A typical lesson plan would be to review what topic(s) you are struggling with, an explanation of recently taught subjects, a review of past mistakes on assignments, practical time to interact with topics, time to learn and test study methods best for you, and managing time for breaks and rewards.
Some of the methods I would explore are:
-"Study Hygiene"
-Tactile Focus Learning
- Pomodoro Timer Method
-Feynman Technique and Paraphrasing
-Body Doubling
-Reward/Incentive Based Motivation
-Etc.

Details
30-60 Minute Free Lesson:
- A brief session to introduce ourselves and any problems you may have.
-I will also go over "Study Hygiene" and how you/your child can implement it.
-Purpose:
--> Go over specific needs or concerns
--> Review current study methods
--> Formulate an idea of what methods will work best
--> Gives me time to make a good plan for success
1st-3rd Session(s):
- The first few sessions will be a bit different than the rest. These will aim to review current issues and try to solve them.
-These will be less about learning current material (although that will be accomplished) and more about trying different learning methods and establishing a routine.
Normal Sessions:
-Perform "Study Hygiene" (ideally before meeting or within the first few minutes of joining)
-Check in on already taken or upcoming quizzes/tests, assignments, homework, issues, etc.
-Review past mistakes and help correct and understand the past errors
-Reteach topics of concern or coping methods to help study
-Potential Options for Excess Time:
--> Time to actively study and review
--> Participating in games/activities/etc.
--> Breaks that include stretching, treats, rewards, etc.
Basic Needs for Lessons:
- A comfortable space or area ideal for studying. (This can differ for everyone, and will be discussed in the free lesson. But ideally a dedicated space separate from where they sleep, eat, watch TV, or play games.)
-Access to a computer, laptop, tablet, or phone. (Ideally a computer or laptop for better interactivity, and has a microphone and camera.)
-Ability to use Google Meet, Gmail, and other Google applications like Drive and Docs.
- (Optional) Candy/treats, access to applications like Notion or mobile scanners, access to share/print the course material/schedule/grades
Quick Definitions:
--> Study Hygiene is an established routine to prepare yourself for a study session. It can be different for everyone, but it is to help you get comfortable in a set study space. This includes access to a device, access to class books/homework/quizzes/tests/portals/etc., snacks or drinks, a candle/aroma maker, and pens/paper/etc. Some may prefer to be in a comfy chair, some may prefer to be at a desk, some may prefer to be on the floor, and some may prefer to be in a dim room. We can personalize and adjust the session as needed. **This is a space and routine to provide focus. If anything is truly distracting or impeding the lesson, it will need to be removed or put away**
--> Body Doubling is a study/productivity method that is commonly effective for ADHD people. It involves having one or more people with you as you study or do work. It can significantly improve your motivation and productivity, especially when held accountable. If this sounds like something you do or enjoy, we can carve out time to specifically get work done and then review it all together.
