About Catherine
I am remote Head Coordinator of a women's centre and safe space on the island of Lesvos, Greece. We work with women from all over the globe, many coming from French-speaking nations such as DRC and Cameroon. Before working at Becky's Bathhouse, I lived in Paris, France and interned with Utopia 56. For my university studies abroad, I spent a semester in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where upon arrival I signed a pledge to speak French and only French for the duration of my stay. This immersive language experience (living with a host family, studying at a private Cameroonian university, etc.) prepared me for the work I have now pursued in France and Greece.

I have studied French in many different contexts, classroom spaces, and countries, so my methodology is based on this culmination of experiences. I believe that especially when it comes to language, we learn by doing in the company of supportive others. As your tutor, I will challenge you to speak, to ponder, to express yourself, doing so in French. Vocabulary or grammar will be incorporated as it relates to self-expression, situating these lessons within practical lessons in the everyday usage of the French language. Making mistakes in the pursuit of honing skills is not only welcome, but encouraged.
