About Nafeesa
Are you still looking for an English tutor?
If your answer is yes, then I guess I`d better tell you a bit about myself...
Despite being a Student of the English BA at Queen Mary University, London- a Russell Group University, I also have plenty of experience within the education sector. Over the last 2 years, I have worked at a college in London, teaching GCSE English Language and A level English Language and Literature. I have also been tutoring privately, over the last 4 years, both 1:1 and at an Ofsted approved tuition centre- for which I was given the humongous to design new resources for our English Primary, KS3 and GCSE departments. I therefore have a vast understanding of the National Framework and Examining Board requirements, as well as the best sorts of resources to help your child.
In creating my own lessons, individually tailored to the needs of your child, and a teaching style based on simplifying the most complex of concepts and texts, my teaching aims to build your child’s confidence and ensure they understand key techniques until they are able to utilise them independently and effectively- this is unlike those who teach their students complex techniques and expect them to memorise and cram everything before their exams!
For me, teaching is about building confidence and making your child enjoy the subject. A child who feels confident in a subject can come to enjoy it and therefore thrive in it. KS3:
With the dramatic changes to the GCSE syllabus, particularly in English, schools are having to change the way they teach KS3 to ensure that pupils are ready for their exams. As a result, it has become even more important to prepare your child, iron out any issues and areas of weakness, and prepare them for their GCSE exams well in advance. I have created my own successful KS3 model which has been proven to work, and this is the model I will use with your child to help bring up confidence and give them the best start in their GCSE prep:
-An Action Plan highlighting areas of weakness, areas of strength, whether your children are on track, key target areas which will be focused on and achievement to be expected within certain time periods.
-Intensive focus on the PEE structure to prepare their analytical skills
-Intensive focus on terminology required for Literature
-In depth focus on Creative Writing and expectations in an exam
-A deep focus on 19th century literature
-A step-by-step approach through understanding poetry and knowing what to analyse
-Reading Log to ensure that your child is reading texts to prepare them for examination set texts
- Guide to how to structure an essay
-Nurturing and building of confidence regarding HOW pupils and WHAT pupils should analyse.
-Exam Practice
-Weekly homework and feedback
*When your child is ready, I can then begin going through their actual GCSE set texts with them before they are covered in your child’s school, to ensure that your child is confident and two steps ahead.*
GCSE:
GCSE exams are a stressful but important milestone for your child, and it’s become a lot more stressful with the changes to the curriculum, especially where English is concerned, due to the closed-book context of each exam as well as the fact that your child has to study more texts!
As a result, you can expect the following support from me:
-An Action Plan highlighting areas of weakness, areas of strength, whether your children are on track, key target areas which will be focused on and achievement to be expected within certain time periods.
-Guidance through each of your child’s set texts
-Teaching of techniques to support analysis of unseen poems
-Step by step guide highlighting how to approach each question
-Guiding your child through what examiners look for in student responses
- Teaching of your child’s poetry cluster of 15 poems and what to analyse
-Exam and essay practice
-Intensive work on how to structure an essay for each exam paper
-Ironing out of any errors in your child’s analytical structure
-Intensive working of a structured writing frame for each language question for both papers
-Focus on how to approach creative writing and key areas examiners will look at
-Marked feedback of work and intensive focus on redrafting to improve your
child’s skills
-Weekly homework and feedback
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I hired Nafeesa for my little brother whilst he was in year 9. He was not doing well in English and was maintaining a level 3 (grade E). After a few months of his sessions with Nafeesa his teacher called me and told me he has improved dramatically; he went from a 3 to an 8-9. He achieved the second highest result in his class for his mock test. She helped him tackle all his weak points such as writing skills, understanding a text and how to approach questions that will be asked in the exam papers. She has also helped him look at what the examiners look for so he is clear on how to answer the questions. My brother is also very fond of her, he likes her teaching style he said she can explain things in a way he will understand and feels confident with towards the end of his lesson. Overall, I am very happy with Nafeesa as she has helped my brother improve his skills and grades and is continuing to prepare him for his GCSE so he can do his best.
