About Dima

I’m Dima Wannous, a Syrian novelist, and for as long as I can remember, language has been my most intimate companion. Growing up in a literary household, with my father, Saadallah Wannous, a celebrated playwright, I was immersed in stories, words, and the endless possibilities they offer. This upbringing shaped my deep love for Arabic—its intricacies, its power, and its ability to convey the most profound human emotions.

Through my novels, especially « The Frightened Ones », I’ve explored themes of fear, trauma, and personal identity under political oppression. These stories are not just fictional—they are reflections of real, lived experiences, and the Arabic language has been my vessel for expressing these truths. Language, for me, is not just about communication. It is about memory, history, and identity.

I want to teach Arabic because I believe in the transformative power of this language. I want to help others connect with Arabic on a level that goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. I want to guide my students through the beauty and depth of this language, helping them not only to speak it fluently but to feel it, to think in it, and to write with it in a way that expresses their own stories.

For me, teaching is about sharing this passion for Arabic—showing others how it can open doors to new perspectives, ideas, and creative expression.
