About Amanda
Hi! I’m Amanda, and I recently graduated from the National University of Singapore Law after studying at Hwa Chong Institution, where I attained 90 Rank Points. Throughout my academic journey, I have always enjoyed helping my friends and juniors understand difficult concepts, whether it was planning essays, improving their writing or thinking through challenging ideas. Over time, I realized that seeing someone gain confidence and achieve results they once thought were beyond them was one of the most rewarding experiences for me.
That passion is what inspired me to become a tutor. I believe that many students are capable of doing well, but often lack someone who can explain concepts in a way that truly makes sense to them. Having experienced the demands of Singapore’s education system myself, I understand how frustrating English and GP can feel, especially when students are told to “analyze more” or “be more evaluative” without being shown exactly how to do so. My aim is to bridge that gap by breaking complex skills into clear, practical steps that students can apply with confidence.
Beyond academics, I enjoy reading about current affairs and following developments in law, society and technology. These interests allow me to bring relevant and engaging examples into my lessons, helping students see that English and GP are not just examination subjects but opportunities to better understand the world around them.
Ultimately, my goal is to help every student become a more confident communicator and independent thinker. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing a student grow in confidence, overcome their weaknesses and achieve results they once did not think were possible.

My teaching philosophy is centred on helping students become confident, independent thinkers rather than simply teaching them how to answer examination questions. Whether I am teaching General Paper or English, I focus on developing the skills that underpin strong performance: critical thinking, logical reasoning, clear organisation of ideas and precise expression. Once students understand how to think through a question and communicate their ideas effectively, they are able to tackle unfamiliar topics with confidence instead of relying on memorised content.
My academic background has shaped this approach. Having graduated from Hwa Chong Institution with 90 Rank Points and subsequently from the National University of Singapore Law, I have undergone years of rigorous training in analysing complex issues, evaluating competing arguments and constructing persuasive, well-supported positions. Studying law taught me that strong writing is not about using sophisticated vocabulary for its own sake, but about presenting ideas with clarity, structure and purpose. These are exactly the same skills that examiners reward in GP and English.
Over the past two years of tutoring GP, I have found that many students struggle not because they lack ideas, but because they do not know how to develop and communicate them effectively. My lessons therefore emphasise breaking down difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps. I teach students how to analyse question requirements, plan coherent arguments, evaluate different perspectives and support their points with relevant examples. Rather than asking students to memorise model essays, I equip them with frameworks that allow them to think critically and adapt confidently to any question they encounter.
Above all, I believe every student is capable of improving with the right guidance. I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and refining their thinking. My goal is not only to help them achieve better grades, but also to build communication and analytical skills that will continue to serve them well beyond the examination hall.
