About Emerald
I received my Bachelor’s degree in law from China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, China, and I moved to NYC about 10 years ago. I received my language education degree from Steinhardt, New York University in 2016. I would love to help individuals who are preparing to learn a new language and a new culture. Although I loved working with adolescents in middle and high schools in my previous jobs, I believe Mandarin learners of all levels and all ages deserve to learn a new language through interesting activities and stories! I cannot wait to create with you!

Hi, welcome to my profile! My name is Emerald (Liangdongzi). I am a New York State certified English as a Second Language (ESL) and Mandarin teacher, and I have taught in public and independent middle and high schools for more than eight years in New York City. My specialties are teaching Mandarin through TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), and helping students to prepare for IB English B exam. Over eight years of teaching experience has taught me engaging students is the most important task. My class is filled with storytelling and games! My lessons are very much beginner friendly, using storytelling is the highlight of my class. If you like to improve listening, speaking, and reading (Chinese characters) through storytelling, my class is THE ONE for you! No matter where you are in your language learning journey, I would love to cater to your learning needs and goals!
