About Louise Kim
Louise Kim Salter is a course tutor at University of Cambridge on the Writing for Performance and Creative Writing MSt post-graduate courses. She is an award-winning actress, filmmaker and creative mentor. An artist first, she sees creativity as an opportunity to deepen our connection to ourselves and each other.
In addition to supporting students at University of Cambridge, Louise mentors emerging actors, writers and filmmakers on the Raindance Masters programme, particularly those looking to create their own opportunities, as she has throughout her career. Her workshops bring together the character-development tools she uses as an actor with the self-development practices that have shaped her own creative journey.
Louise trained under Olivier Award-winning director Rebecca Frecknall at the National Youth Theatre. On screen, she leads the supernatural thriller Darker Days opposite Tom Durant Pritchard (Andor, Miss Scarlet). On stage, she toured the Arts Council-funded one-woman show Reverie: The Haunted, opening to a sold-out night at Cambridge Junction. She has won multiple Best Actress awards, including for Butterfly (Amazon Prime) and How to be Human.
Behind the camera, she directs and produces film, edits podcasts and holds an MA with Distinction in Filmmaking from Raindance. How to be Human, based on her original concept, won Best Film and screened at BAFTA, Oscar and BIFA-qualifying festivals worldwide. Louise has built a career across the full arc of independent filmmaking, from concept and script to production and festival release, including leading her own feature film through her production company.

I realised that the more I came to understand myself, the more inspired and open I was to receiving ideas. It's a brilliant feeling to nurture an idea into a realised project. I've worked on films, plays, immersive theatre and have mentored students across the spectrum of performance-led pursuits. My calling card short film How to be Human (a film I created and acted in) opened my career to multiple opportunities and avenues. I recently produced a feature film (that I also acted in) and completed a personal goal in the process.
I've spent years years learning how to build a creative life on my own terms, and I now help people to do the same.
These creative 1-2-1 sessions are opportunities for us to focus on your creative development. We can identify the obstacles you've been facing, whether that's with a project or within your process and create actionable steps that help to move you forward and closer to your creative goals.
I'm a big fan of mind-maps, objectives and creative writing exercises to get you thinking in different ways. With my background in acting, I also have come to realise that our work and our selves are very closely linked. When we work on ourselves, we work on all of our projects too - and it's with an open and non-judgment mindset that I like to approach these sessions, so that you feel creatively fulfilled and connected with your artistic self.
