About Bente

I am a trained outstanding EFL and ESOL teacher with 21 years of experience teaching in a further education college in Hertfordshire, as well as one-on-one, in pairs, in small group settings, and in summer camps. I have prepared students for ESOL Skills for Life exams with excellent results (Cambridge and Trinity) and EFL (PET and FCE.)

My students have told me frequently they have loved working with me, and I have loved working with them. During my time working for the college, I was formally evaluated at least a dozen times and received high ratings on all of my observations.

I have spoken English every day as my primary language for the last 42 years of years of my life. However, I was born in Norway as a non-native English speaker and so I understand first-hand my students' experiences of learning English as a foreign or second language.

In addition to English and Norwegian, I speak French, German, Swedish and some Spanish, and read and understand Danish. I have worked with students whose native language I speak, but also with students from countries such as Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Moldova, and Pakistan.

I am passionate, dedicated, rigorous and kind. I insist on good grammar and gear my lessons towards the student's life in the U.K. and personal goals, whether they are speaking with neighbours and other parents outside the school gate, making new friends, moving up at work or passing a key exam. I understand that my students' time and money is important and work efficiently and exceptionally reliably.

Prizes and Scholarships :
Annual inspections at Oaklands College conducted for my latter nine years there: I was always rated "very good" or "excellent"

Other Qualifications :
Examen Artium, Norway (Norwegian equivalent of 'A' Level), awarded in 1970 for performance across a range of humanities subjects with English as my main subject
Examen Philosophicum, Norway (university entry course in philosophy, psychology and logical thinking), passed in 1972
