About Federico

I am a PhD economist at UCL and a Teaching Assistant for third-year undergraduates, which means I teach the degree these students are applying to. I read Economics and Industrial Organisation at Warwick with First Class Honours and completed the MSc and MRes at UCL with Distinction. Before the PhD I worked as an economist at Frontier Economics on competition cases, and I currently hold a visiting researcher position at the Bank of England.

I have prepared students for the TMUA and taught A Level Maths, Further Maths and Economics across OCR and Edexcel, with over 400 hours of teaching behind me.

The advantage of working with someone at this stage of an academic career is straightforward. An Oxbridge or LSE economics interview is an attempt to establish whether a candidate can think like an economist under pressure. I spend my working life doing exactly that, and I teach the undergraduates who cleared these interviews two years ago, so I know what the successful ones actually sound like.

I prepare candidates for economics and economics-adjacent courses across the universities that select on testing and interview — Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Warwick, UCL, Durham, Bath, Bristol, Nottingham and Lancaster among them. Requirements vary by course and change between cycles, so the first thing we establish is exactly what your target courses demand this year.

TMUA. Both papers, taught as separate skills. Paper 1 is speed and technique under severe time pressure. Paper 2 is mathematical reasoning, logic and proof, which almost no A Level student has been formally taught and which is where most of the marks are lost. Full past-paper coverage under timed conditions, with a diagnosis of where the marks are actually going.

TSA. For Oxford PPE and Economics & Management. Critical thinking and problem solving trained as distinct disciplines, plus the timed essay, where the failure is almost never knowledge and almost always structure under a clock.

Personal statement. Structural work and honest criticism, not rewriting. Everything in the statement must survive interview questioning, so we build it around genuine economic interests the candidate can develop under pressure.

Interview. Mock interviews in the real format: an unfamiliar problem, no preparation time, and follow-up questions that push until the candidate reaches the limit of what they know. That limit is the point of the interview, and candidates who have never been taken there panic when they arrive. Recorded on request, with written feedback after each session.

Wider preparation. Reading that holds up under questioning, and the habit of applying economic reasoning to current events — the thing that separates candidates who sound interested from candidates who sound coached.

I work with students from Year 12 onward, and earlier is better. The TMUA rewards months of technique work, and interview composure cannot be built in a fortnight.

Sessions run online with flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends throughout the application period. Book a 15-minute call and tell me the target courses, the test dates, and where the student currently stands.
