About Gerda
I'm Gerda, an IB tutor passionate about helping students excel in English and German—my own favourite HL subjects. Equipped with a BA in German Literature from Oxford and an MA in Journalism from the University of Amsterdam, I thrive on unraveling literary word-webs and crafting my own through political and music journalism. My mission is to ignite IB students' love for languages and literature while providing them with the tools to crack the code of success in these subjects. As an Oxford-educated tutor, I foster an assessment-criteria led approach to improve academic results, while igniting students' intellectual curiosity and boosting their analytical abilities. My goal is to get students excited about their subject, whether it's English Literature or German. Typical lessons last one hour, allowing for in-depth exploration of topics, ample time for questions and discussion, and the option to assign tailored homework for students who find additional practice beneficial.
I bring a year of experience teaching small groups of university students conversational English in Germany, which has boosted my ability to engage students and make language learning dynamic and interactive. My focus is on IB students, as well as those aspiring to attend top universities. However, I am happy tailor my tutoring methods to meet the specific requirements of each student's respective curriculum.
