About Emily

I am a cellist and educator based in New York City, currently pursuing a Master of Music in Cello Performance at The New School under Matt Haimovitz. I previously completed both my Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma in Cello Performance at McGill University Schulich School of Music, studying with Elizabeth Dolin and Matt Haimovitz.

Alongside my studies, I perform regularly in orchestral, chamber, and freelance settings throughout New York and Montréal. My experience includes principal and assistant principal positions with ensembles such as the New York Orchestra Project and the Orchestre de la Francophonie alongside performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Steinway Hall, and The National Arts Club.

I have several years of teaching experience through private instruction, chamber music coaching, and as a teaching assistant. I work with students of all ages and levels, focusing on strong technical foundations, musical expression, and thoughtful practice habits in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

About the lesson

As a cello tutor, I focus on creating lessons that are supportive and tailored to each student’s individual goals. My teaching combines strong technical foundations, helping students build confidence, healthy practice habits, and a deeper understanding of music.

A typical lesson includes warm-ups, scales or technical exercises, repertoire work, and practice strategies designed for the student’s level and learning style. I emphasize fundamentals such as tone production, intonation, rhythm, and musicality while encouraging students to think creatively and perform with confidence.

What sets me apart is my combination of advanced conservatory training, active professional performance experience, and years of teaching students of different ages and levels. I'm currently pursuing a Master of Music in Cello Performance at The New School after completing both my Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma at McGill University. Alongside my studies, I work as a private teacher, chamber music coach, teaching assistant, and freelance performer in New York City.

I teach students of all ages and levels preparing for auditions, competitions, youth orchestra placements, conservatory applications, and to enjoy the love of music.
