About Alexander
I am a PhD graduate from Queen's University (Canada) in History. I am a historian of the British Empire with a specialism in North America. I have taught on eight undergraduate courses as a teaching assistant and fellow at Queen's University in History and the Liberal Arts. I am passionate about history generally and love to help students find their own passion for the past.

Each student is an individual with their own unique learning needs. As a teacher, I place the individual student at the heart of everything I do. Above all, I want to know how best you learn and your own goals for a course. I structure our sessions around what you need, whether this is guidance on an essay, help understanding the readings set by your course instructor, or tutoring in a specific area of history. Lessons take the form of one-to-one conversations. I am happy to read over drafts of your assignments and provide verbal feedback.
My lessons are best suited for undergraduate students in history and related disciplines. In particular, I can help with:
- Essay writing
- Crafting an argument with a strong thesis statement
- Referencing and academic integrity
- Understanding sources, distilling arguments, and using evidence in your work
- Feedback on written assignments
I can offer general feedback on work in any area of history. I can also provide specific feedback and lessons in the following subject areas:

- Settler colonies in the British Empire
