About Will

Philosophy is my passion. But it has not always been that way. My uni degree is one that has taken me from international relations, through gender studies before finally coming to philosophy. This track has granted me what I feel is a rather unique understanding and teaching style. It is not my aim to tell you all the answers. Rather I will give you the tools to come to those answers by yourself. While I have tackled a large amount of varying subjects my main areas of interest are in the philosophy of language. Anything which causes a further decentering of the idea of the self which Descartes was so nice to bestow on us. If you are struggling to understand Plato, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Freud, Lacan or anything in between please do not hesitate to reach out! Particularly if you are struggling with German or French thought! As sometimes the ideas get changed through the inherent violence of translation! Please feel free to reach out no matter what you are studying! I will always be upfront. If I don't feel I know something well enough I will always let you know! Even if I have already read them, I will reread anything we are looking at in the days leading up to the lesson.

About the lesson

I offer tutoring for anyone struggling with VCE all the way up to honours level! (Depending on what the specific subject is I may be able to go further then that but only on a few specific topics) I have undertaken countless units in philosophy finishing each unit with a high HD (85+).

My lessons will be structured to fit the students individual needs. Bring whatever text, chapter, article that you are working on and we will work through it together! Before the class you just tell me the text you are looking at. I will then ensure that I have read the text and picked out some key questions that we can work through to help you with an understanding.

Further we will work through what an essay should look at. How to come up with thesis statements and how to ensure that you write an essay that will be different from anything else your marker will read.

I can also teach you how to reference well to back up your points while showing the breadth of your understanding. As well as teaching you the method I use to research, and some invaluable websites to help you.

Every class will come with a set of notes, a set of key quotes, and a summary of the key points so you leave with something you can refer back to. I am also happy to create short answer questions every week that will test your understanding.

I can also help VCE students who are struggling with SAC's or major pieces of assessment
