About Trey
Hi there! I have a BA (First Class) in Human, Social, and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and an MA (Distinction) in Philosophy & Contemporary Critical Theory, for which I also won the Outstanding Achievement award for the highest grade on the programme. While I have tutored applicants for a range of social science subjects, my research specialisms lie in political philosophy and social theory, writing my Master's dissertation on the concept of freedom in G.W.F Hegel and Jacques Ranciere. I will begin my Philosophy PhD in October 2024 on the concept of 'instituent power' in Roberto Esposito and Cornelius Castoriadis, and look forward to sharing my enthusiasm with new students! Outside of academic study and tutoring, I am passionate about film and photography, and write regularly for various magazines and journals. Please see a more detailed breakdown of my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees below for a sense of my topics of interest and tutoring areas, from 19th century political thought, to the economics of global capitalism, and the sociology of media. Please also see my academia.edu profile for my list of publications: (concealed information)

My sessions will be modelled off the supervision process at Cambridge University, providing in-depth feedback on the basis of the student's work and developing knowledge through wide-ranging critical discussion. Premium will be placed not just on the student's grasp of the content, but also on the development of their own ways of thinking and intellectual confidence.
More specifically, I will provide tuition on essay writing (structure, style, and content); detailed knowledge of the subject-area; further reading; interview preparation; personal statement writing; and more. I am happy to tutor students in Politics, Sociology, and Philosophy at both A-Level and university level; Oxbridge and university entrance for HSPS, PPE, and related subjects (e.g., sociology, anthropology); and postgraduate applicants for philosophy, politics, sociology, anthropology. Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I really recommend Trey as a tutor because their impressive range of knowledge has been very useful in our sessions. Trey also took the time to understand my particular needs to craft a thoughtful series of sessions. You can tell Trey is engaged and passionate about what they teach.
Trey is a very young and outstanding tutor, very smart and knowledgeable. His style of tutoring is largely student-led, aiming to answer the queries the student has on the material. Having said that, he can also take the lead of the session when it becomes necessary, and often offers his own insight to the student for discussion. In general, he is a very reliable and helpful tutor.
Trey has been helping me with my application to Cambridge. His sessions are always engaging and they have really helped me to develop my critical thinking skills, as well as with articulating my ideas.
Trey has been extremely helpful in improving my essay writing skills. Politics was my weakest subject but after my lessons with Trey, my confidence in the subject significantly increased as I was able to tackle weaknesses. Through the sessions, I am able to fully understand difficult topics. His teaching style is knowledgeable, patient and organised.
