About Laney
My degree is a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the University of Michigan. This training informs my analytical approach to the keyboard and how I structure my musical concepts.
I have spent 13 years teaching 448 students the mechanics of jazz improvisation and hand independence. My work focuses on building complex chord voicings and internalizing rhythm through consistent, logical steps.
I enjoy working with teens, working professionals, and advanced learners who want to bridge the gap between reading notes and truly playing music. Sight transposition and memorization techniques are core parts of my instruction.
I provide a calm environment where returning learners can find their rhythm again. You will find that my methods are rooted in a deep understanding of musical architecture. We will work together on these skills until the mechanics become second nature to you.
