About Vivian
Hi, I am a piano tutor with over 2 years of experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance. My background is rooted in jazz piano, and I have guided students preparing for conservatory level programs at schools like Berklee and Juilliard.
I love working with students who are serious about advancing their jazz playing, whether that means improvisation, complex harmony, or performance readiness. Every student has a different creative spark, and my job is to help them find it and build on it. I focus on both the technical and creative sides of piano, since one without the other only takes you so far.
Some students come to me already skilled but stuck in a routine, and I enjoy pushing them past that comfort zone. Others are still finding their sound, and I help them build confidence one piece at a time. I always try to balance structure with freedom, since jazz is as much about rules as it is about breaking them well.
Teaching keeps me learning too, and I take that seriously. If you are ready to grow as a jazz pianist, I would love to help you get there.

My teaching approach integrates modern tools for expanded musical possibilities. Piano today is not limited to the acoustic instrument alone, and I like my students to see that early on. We work on traditional technique first, since a strong foundation always makes everything else easier.
From there, I bring in music technology for pianists, including digital pianos, synthesizers, and basic DAW use. Students learn how to record their own playing and hear it back with fresh ears. This alone helps many of them improve faster, since they start noticing small details on their own.
Some of my students come from a strict classical background and are used to sheet music and precise technique, and I help them open up to the electronic side of piano without losing that discipline. Others are younger students who pick things up quickly, and I keep them engaged by mixing classical pieces with fun synth sounds and simple recording exercises. Either way, my goal stays the same.
I support them in exploring new sounds while keeping their technical skills sharp. Let's make your piano sound bigger.
