I like to find out why the pupil is taking lessons and what the objective is. Generally it’s to help with homework so I’ll adapt the lesson to focus on the specific exercises given and use real life examples to help the pupil. If it’s out of general interest then I like to know what my pupil is passionate about so that we can focus on that particular topic and then branch out from it.
