About Calum Louis
My name is Calum Louis Adams, but I often go by Cal! I'm a visual artist and writer from Cardiff, UK. My practice spans a multitude of techniques; from artist books, to sculpture, video work to conceptual. At the heart of my work is a dedication to experimentation and concept, encouraging a response to contemporary art and political culture. Thus, I am adept at research through film, essay and publication giving me a bank of knowledge to draw upon. As a proud trans, queer woman, I am focused on an inclusive and friendly learning environment who takes pride of her identity both in her practice as an artist and as a tutor.

My lessons are approximately an hour long. I take an experimental approach, looking to test and challenge a student to extend their written capability and encourage a contemporary, if not conceptual, outlook on their current practice. I believe teaching is a collaborative endeavour, between tutor and student. Before the first session, I will review a student's current work in progress, and proofread any previous writings so I have a sense of your practice and can come prepared with relevant references. I have worked informally with students at university level, providing studio tutorials on works in progress, engaging in symposiums on contemporary art theory and assisting with written activities. My sessions can be centred on symposiums for furthering knowledge in art theory, portfolio/interview preparation, practice review or essay assistance. Although my experience is predominantly with L4, L5, L6 and Post Graduate students, I am willing to provide assistance to students at sixth form/BTEC level too. Qualifications: - Active member of the East Bristol Contemporary education group - MFA in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art and Design, Distinction - BaHons in Fine Art: Critical Practice, 1st Class Honours - Widely exhibited across the UK, including being chosen for the Young Welsh Artists exhibition at MoM WalesA
