About Lauren
Who am I? I am someone who has had a life-long passion for learning. I am an amateur artist, I love Drama and the Theatre and Literature. I also play the guitar.
My study of the History of Art began at A level and continued with the attainment of a BA, MA, and PhD. The subject requires intense study and learning not only of Art, but also History, Philosophy, Literature, Sociology and Politics. I have published academic papers (the most recent in 2026) and edited a book.
Although primarily a teacher for students 14+ I have taught from age 11 upwards and love to watch students of all ages and ability levels mature not only in their academic abilities but also as people. I believe that education is valuable for your flourishing as a person and I love to contribute to this development.

I have 30 years teaching experience, and I believe that what makes me an excellent teacher both at High School and University level is my passion for education. My teaching experience of knowing how and in what way to teach a topic and subject, for students of all levels and abilities, will increase a student’s learning skills and critical thinking, and help them to become more academically confident and independently curious.
The foundation of my pedagogical approach is the Socratic Dialogue - the incorporation of question and answer. I believe that it is vital to help the student to come to ‘an answer’ themselves. Personal tutoring provides the opportunity for this approach to learning that is often not available in a classroom environment.
No matter the age and abilities of the student my goal as a teacher is to strive to aid them in becoming truly engaged with the subject matter. For me, this is an essential part of the learning process and especially important as preparation for GCSEs & A Levels and continuing to Higher Education.
Lesson length is 1.5 - 2 hours long, with usually a 5 - 10-minute break.
