About Melanie
I have spent seven years teaching French, working with 330 students, many of them adults preparing for travel or relocation rather than formal examinations. My own fluency developed through years of travel and informal immersion in French-speaking regions, giving me a strong practical grounding beyond classroom study. I keep my teaching relaxed and encouraging, since I understand how intimidating it feels to speak an unfamiliar language out loud for the first time. Many students arrive worried about sounding foolish, and helping them relax into natural, confident speech is something I genuinely enjoy. I remain available between lessons for quick pronunciation questions, since steady momentum matters enormously in the early stages of learning.

My French lessons focus on practical, everyday conversation from the very first session, since most students want to actually use the language rather than simply pass a test. Grammar is introduced gradually through patterns noticed in real dialogue, and I revisit tricky structures naturally over several sessions instead of expecting instant mastery. Vocabulary is grouped around real situations like travel, shopping, and daily routines, since personal relevance makes retention far stronger than abstract word lists. I share short voice recordings after each lesson so students can review pronunciation at their own pace between sessions. Every lesson closes with an unscripted conversation entirely in French, giving students low-pressure practice applying what they just learned.
