About Lewis

Education is a lifelong commitment, and one that I've been passionate about ever since I picked up my first book (Aldous Huxley's Brave New World!). I'm here to share my knowledge and to offer academic support to those students who, like many of us in the past, are in need of a helping hand to maximize their potential. If you need a teacher of English, philosophy, politics/political theory, economics, essay writing, verbal reasoning, the humanities, and basic logic and mathematics, then don't hesitate - contact me to arrange a free consultation.

Do you need professional academic support? Is there a talent or a skill that you want to nurture, or an exam or admissions test that you desperately need to pass? If so, don't hesitate: choosing me as your tutor is the first step to academic success.

So, who am I?

I'm a master’s level political theorist and philosopher who recently graduated from the London School of Economics. I achieved first class honours at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and in the case of the former, I was awarded the Humanities Rotary Prize for attaining the highest grade in analytic philosophy in every consecutive academic year. My formal qualifications are: BA Philosophy (1.1) and MSc Philosophy and Public Policy (1.1).

I have been tutoring students for 3+ years, and in that time I've helped hundreds of students to make the grade. My students seek out my services for diverse reasons, but most typically they require tuition in political science and theory, analytic, continental, and historical philosophy, English literature and English as a second language, or logic and mathematics.

My teaching style is conversational and engaging, and my pedagogical philosophy encourages critical thinking. By deploying a problem-centred pedagogical style, I show my students how to turn intractable mysteries into soluble puzzles, and by solving these puzzles for themselves they develop the ability to approach problems with an analytical mindset. Typically, I arrange a free consultation with either the student or the student's parents/guardians. This allows me to assess the learner's current knowledge base, aptitudes, interests, and aims, which in turn enables me to craft the perfect learning programme.

I am familiar with the GCSE and A level requirements and curriculum content in England, Scotland, and Wales, and I have a deep understanding of university admissions exams and university level essay writing expectations. I can advise parents on the differences between Granada Learning’s 11+ exams and the Center for Evaluation and Monitoring 11+ (the two common 11+ entrance exams in the UK). I have also tutored past students in preparation for taking the demanding ISEB (an exam type used by schools like Dulwich College and Eton) and a number of more specific entrance exams.

Proofreading services for essays, dissertations, and admissions applications are also something that can be arranged. My standard rate is £20/ph for tuition, but proofreading and editing is quoted on the basis of the project in question. Get in touch for a free consultation.
