About Eric
As a United States Chess Federation National Master and Original Life Master, I have been playing chess since I was 11 years old and have played competitively since 1981, when I was President of the Brooklyn College chess club. My most notable chess achievement is first place at the New York Open in 1993. I spearheaded the MetroTech, Brooklyn Garden & Chess Festival in May 2000 and was Master of Ceremonies. I have several notable Zugzwang games, with the best game taking place during the Marshall Chess Club Senior Championship in 2024 against an Original Life Master. The game was published in the Marshall Chess Club newsletter. My most famous Zugzwang game was against a former World Junior Champion at his simultaneous chess exhibition in New York City. In 2002, I placed first in the Open Section of the Chess-In-The-Schools Chess-In-The-Parks tournament in Central Park, New York with more than 500 participants!

As a chess instructor and coach, I have taught chess in the New York City Metropolitan area to children and adults (including seniors) for more than 35 years. My former top student who was 13 years old at the time, beat a high ranked Grandmaster during a simultaneous chess exhibition by the Grandmaster. I have vast teaching experience at community centers, YMCA's, Yeshivas, public schools, and hobby and game stores. I have given several chess lectures on topics such as The Richter-Veresov Attack, and Zugzwang in New York City.
