About Brandy Liên
Hello, my name is Brandy! I have been in the publishing and creative industries for nearly three decades. In addition, I have a BA in English and French, with honours, a Master's in Asian American Studies from UCLA, and an MFA in Creative Writing (non-fiction) from the University of British Columbia. I have been passionate about writing ever since I was a little girl. I am a published author, and my first memoir, What Doesn't Kill Us, is my literary pride and joy. I am currently working on my second memoir.
I absolutely love teaching! I taught Learning Skills in high school in Boston, as well as a few subjects in Asian American Studies at UCLA. Additionally, I have been organizing and creating writing workshops for a long time as well. My passion is to teach writing to those who don't necessarily think of themselves as writers. I have also taught writing classes to elementary and middle school-aged children. Everyone has a story to tell.
I have three children, ages 11, 18, and 19. My older children are in university, studying computer science and art. They are my true, real-life pride and joy. I homeschooled my youngest during the early part of the pandemic.

After having tutored and taught writing, grammar, and literacy for over three decades, my approach to these subjects is to find what interests the students most and to use that as material. If the material is boring, it will not work.
I always build an excellent rapport with each student, no matter what the challenge is, no matter the background or age.
Having come from diverse backgrounds, I am interested in meeting students from around the world!
