I have a Ph.D. in history and over ten years' experience teaching the US, European, and world history. I have been both a student and a teacher at all levels, so I know what sort of knowledge and understanding students expect.

It's important for students to understand the major events of a time period and their chronological relation to one another, but that knowledge rarely sticks without a narrative framework, so I frame the history of a period as a story. I also emphasize learning to "think like a historian" by teaching how to write a coherent analysis of primary sources.
