About James

I’m James, a professional jazz and swing singer with over 12 years of experience performing and teaching across the UK and Europe. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, where I trained in jazz performance and vocal technique. Music has always been a defining part of my life, and teaching allows me to share that passion by helping others grow in skill and confidence. My teaching philosophy is simple: every voice is unique, and my role is to help you discover and strengthen yours. I’m known for being patient, approachable, and motivational, always creating a safe and positive space for learning. My students describe my lessons as engaging, informative, and inspiring — a place where they can truly enjoy the art of singing while achieving real progress. Whether your goal is to sing for fun, improve your technique, or pursue a career in music, I’ll help you get there with professionalism, enthusiasm, and care.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is student-focused and adaptable, ensuring that every lesson is tailored to your individual needs, goals, and experience level. Whether you are a complete beginner, a casual learner, or an advanced vocalist looking to refine technique and performance skills, I’ll guide you through every step of your musical journey. Lessons typically last 45 to 60 minutes and are structured to combine technical exercises with practical application. We’ll cover key areas such as: Breathing, posture, and vocal warm-ups Tone, resonance, and projection Expanding vocal range and control Interpretation, phrasing, and stylistic awareness Performance confidence and stage presence My teaching style is encouraging, supportive, and creative. I aim to create a relaxed learning environment where students can grow in confidence, explore their sound, and truly enjoy the process of singing. I welcome students of all ages and abilities, from those discovering their voice for the first time to experienced singers aiming to develop their artistry and performance skills.
