About Louis

I’m a media composer and music tutor specialising in composition for film, television and video games, combining orchestral writing with music production, sound design and experimental approaches to sound.

I’m completing an MA in Composition for Film and Television at the University of Bristol, supported by the Snowdon Trust Master’s Scholarship. My work spans short film, theatre and interactive media. As part of my MA, I completed an industry-led project with BBC Natural History, scoring a wildlife sequence to a producer brief and recording the final score with a professional ensemble.

My creative practice extends beyond traditional composition. I use sampling and resampling to transform environmental recordings and sound effects into original musical material, alongside interactive music technologies including FMOD. I also contribute as a composer and designer to Minecraft Music School, a doctoral research project exploring innovative approaches to music theory through interactive learning.

Alongside composing, I have taught piano, music theory and composition since 2023, working with students across different ages, abilities and learning styles. My lessons are tailored to each student’s creative goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

I bring these experiences directly into my teaching, helping students develop their own musical voice while building the practical skills needed to take an idea from its first concept through to a finished piece.

About the lesson

I offer personalised composition lessons designed around your creative goals, whether you are beginning to write your own music, developing an existing portfolio or looking to specialise in music for film, television and video games.

My teaching combines compositional technique with practical industry skills. Lessons can explore harmony, melody, orchestration, arranging, writing to picture, leitmotifs, MIDI programming, sampling and resampling, sound design, Logic Pro and interactive music.

Rather than following a fixed syllabus, I adapt each lesson to your experience, interests and learning style. You can bring your own compositions or projects to sessions for detailed feedback and practical guidance.

I can also support students preparing composition portfolios for university, postgraduate study or creative opportunities.

All levels are welcome, from beginners discovering composition to developing composers looking to strengthen their creative voice and technical skills.
