About Raphaela
-What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught a roster of private students of all ages and abilities at my home since 2013. I now also teach singing in one-to-one lessons and small groups at two inner-city secondary schools in London, and I teach two community outreach adult education courses at the Mary Ward Centre in Russell Square. I am the Vocal Consultant for Holiday Music, where I conduct and lead the choir.
-Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
-Where with with whom did you train?
I completed my undergraduate degree in English Literature MA Cantab at Clare College Cambridge with 1st Class Hons and I have an Artist Diploma with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I won many prizes and awards during my studies , including 1st prize of the National Mozart Competition. I was a City Music Foundation Artist, which allowed me to curate, produce and star in my own sell-out show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and I was a Vocal Fellow at the prestigious Ravinia Festival in Chicago. I have performed with some of the most acclaimed chamber musicians of my generation, including Sholto Kynoch, Tom Poster and the Navarra Quartet and sung on television, radio and film.
-Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students range in age from 6 to 86 and have a wide range of abilities and interests. Some are complete beginners whilst others have their own performing careers underway.

Hi there, I am offering singing lessons to all ages and levels either at my home in Wood Green N22 or online.
- Which subject do you teach?
I teach singing to all ages and all levels - I trained as a classical opera singer but I love all kinds of music and can help you find the sound you want, whether that is pop, rock, folk, music-theatre, choral or opera. I am an accomplished musician and can also help with music theory and sight-reading/aural skills.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
After winning scholarships to study at Clare College, Cambridge and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, I have had a rich and varied performing career travelling the world, singing to audiences everywhere from Glyndebourne and Carnegie Hall to the Banff and Ravinia Festivals. I was lucky enough to work with some incredible teachers who helped me to find my authentic voice and now I feel that it is my turn to help others find theirs! In my quest to learn as much as I could about teaching, I qualified as a primary-school teacher during the pandemic specialising in Early Years, and now teach singing and lead choirs in secondary schools and in adult community groups around London.
- How much do you charge?
My fee is £40 an hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Wood Green N22. It is located 4 minutes walk from Wood Green tube station. I have a lovely room with a Yamaha upright piano and many other accompanying instruments, including a violin and a ukulele.
- When are you available?
I am currently accepting students on weekdays but please contact me if you're interested in a particular day and time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and levels from children to adults. My students currently range in age from 6 to 86+!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare my students for whatever they might have coming up - this could be auditions, GCSE/A-level performances, shows, or ABRSM exams. I am also happy to work with students on their own personal goals, which may simply be having the confidence to hum in the street.
- Do you have a personal message for your students?
Singing, like driving, cooking or writing, is a skill. This means that wherever you start with it, you can always improve. The pleasure is in the progress, not the end result. If you come and learn with me, I will do everything in my power to help you find your own voice.
