About Jonathan
About Me Hello! I’m Jonathan, a passionate music educator, pianist, and vocal coach with over 20 years of experience. I hold a degree in music and have taught, performed, directed, and arranged in a wide variety of settings—from classical piano and theory instruction to southern gospel, church music, and musical theater. My teaching style is supportive, personalized, and rooted in a deep love for helping others grow musically and creatively. I believe every student has unique strengths, and I take great care in building lessons that inspire confidence, curiosity, and joy. I’m here to meet you where you are—whether you're a beginner, someone returning to music later in life, or an advanced student wanting to deepen your knowledge. Professional, encouraging, and patient, I aim to make every lesson a positive and enriching experience.

Music is personal, and I believe learning it should be too. My teaching approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and the joy of discovery. Whether you're returning to the piano after years away, just beginning your musical journey, or looking to deepen your understanding of theory or gospel harmony—I meet you where you are. Teaching Method & Techniques I teach through a blend of ear training, visual learning, and technique-building, always tailored to the student’s goals. I focus on developing musical intuition alongside skill. We'll often learn by doing—playing through pieces, improvising, or analyzing a favorite song together. I encourage creativity, exploration, and questions, making lessons both structured and flexible. I’m especially passionate about helping students understand why music works the way it does—not just how to play it. A Typical Lesson A typical lesson may include: Warm-up exercises or review from last time Technique or theory exploration Working through a piece or song (classical, gospel, jazz, or your own composition) Listening, improvisation, or discussion depending on your goals Gentle guidance on practice strategies I always leave space for conversation—about music history, meaning, or whatever you’re inspired by. Music is human, and lessons should feel that way. What Sets Me Apart I combine professional training with real-world experience—from church services and community theater to composing and arranging. I’ve worked with singers, pianists, and creatives of all ages and levels, and I understand the emotional and artistic journey behind the music. I also know that life is messy.
