About Phillip

I’m a versatile violinist, viola player, director, and string arranger with extensive experience performing for large audiences around the world. I’ve had the privilege of recording soundtracks for Hollywood films and working across diverse musical genres. Over the years, I've focused on Eastern European folk music, jazz, and improvisation, and currently perform and record a lot of contemporary music. I collaborate with bands, artists, and producers, as well as perform new works by leading living composers. I began playing the violin at age 3, won a music scholarship at 13, and achieved distinctions at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Along the way, I won several prizes for chamber music. In addition to my work as a violinist, I also perform regularly on the viola.

About the lesson

I understand that students' time is very important to them, so I try to structure the lessons so that they can gain the most from them. The material worked on must be engaging to the student and I am happy for them to suggest things of interest or for me to take the lead in providing appropriate pieces. I believe that good technique underpins all styles of playing and having learnt under some of the best UK players and teachers, I can bring that experience to my students. I'm equally at home teaching children and adults. I am the head tutor of a well-known summer school for adult string players. I also learnt the violin from the age of 3 using the Suzuki method. I like to keep lessons enjoyable and inspiring whilst working hard with my students so that they can feel proud of what they have achieved and inspired to do more
