About Tricia
I'm Tricia, a professional technical writer, published author, and experienced writing coach based in the Chicago area. I've spent my career helping people communicate clearly and confidently — writing books, producing technical documentation, and guiding others through the writing process at every level.
I hold dual degrees in Computer Science and English with a Creative Writing specialization — a combination that gives me a uniquely analytical and creative approach to writing instruction. I understand both the technical side of clear communication and the artistic side of compelling storytelling, and I can help you navigate either or both.
Beyond my professional background, I have five years of hands-on teaching experience, including working extensively with neurodivergent learners. I'm patient, adaptable, and genuinely invested in every student I work with. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all instruction — I believe in figuring out what works for you and building from there.
When I'm not writing or tutoring, I'm hiking trails with my dog, making things with my hands, or running a tabletop RPG campaign — which is to say, I bring real curiosity and creativity to everything I do, including teaching.

Every lesson starts with you — your goals, your challenges, and how you think. I don't show up with a rigid plan and expect you to conform to it. Instead, we figure out together what's not clicking and build from there.
My background as a published author and professional technical writer means I can teach writing from the inside out — not just the rules, but the reasoning behind them. Why does structure matter? What makes a sentence land? How do you find your voice without losing clarity? These are the questions I love to dig into.
I specialize in working with neurodivergent students — those with ADHD, Autism, or similar profiles — and I bring genuine patience and flexibility to every session. If you've been told you "just don't get" writing, I'd like to respectfully challenge that. You may just not have had someone explain it in a way that works for your brain yet.
Lessons are tailored to your specific needs, whether that's essay structure, creative writing, technical writing, grammar fundamentals, or finding your voice as a writer. I work with high school and college students, and I'm equally comfortable with academic writing and creative work.
We'll move at your pace, celebrate progress, and keep things practical — every session should leave you with something concrete you can use.
