I believe that a Teaching Philosophy statement is a self-reflective statement. This is the statement of your own beliefs about teaching and learning. It should contain your efforts for turning your own beliefs into practice inside the class. The statement should answer what you do in the classroom. As a Soft skill teacher following are my points-
My personal visions-
I lead my students to achieve measurable progress. I believe in promoting positive learning. My teaching must spark learner enthusiasm for learning. Students must be able to cope up with the corporate world by my teaching. My students should be able to crack interviews for jobs through my guidelines. I try to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning. My teachings also include some practices and examples by which my students can be good citizens and should be able to contribute positively towards mankind and society.
Role as an engineering educator-
1) As we all know that Indian engineers are technically sound but they are lacking behind because of their English fluency. I try to teach them English as a global language in terms of communication.
2) I provide my students many examples regarding self motivation so that their interest must be constant towards learning.
3) I teach my students how to start learning English and motivate them to overcome their phobia of speaking English in public.
4) My class always starts with an activity or story. The motive of doing so is to create interest amongst students and aware them about the topic and its importance in corporate world.
5) Today is the era of Globalization and the English language is known as global language. If an engineer is not able to communicate in English then it is going to harm the engineer’s career. I show some videos related with the same and encourage them to learn it.
6) I provide basic grammar notes and handouts to my students and ask them to meet me after the class if they have doubts in it.
7) I also run a movie club in my college. Through this club I arrange motivational English movies to my students. The methodology behind this act is if they are sitting for 3 hours and watching English movie so they are listening the English language and listening the language is first step of learning it.
8) I conduct some word games in my class to increase their vocabulary.
9) I engage my class into group discussion and group activities so that my students can learn team work and leadership qualities.
Identification of areas to improve-
1) I am a bit impatient.
2) I would like to call corporate people in our college to interact with students.
3) I should add my teaching to research.
Goals-
Short term goals-
1) I try to motivate my students to improve their academic performance.
2) Provide help to improve their self-confidence.
3) I try to create positive learning environment.
4) My students should be able to get placed.
5) Students should be able to cope up with the corporate environment in terms of communication.
Long term goals-
1) Research work
2) Evaluate myself and improve.
