About Brandon
My name is Brandon, and I bring both classroom experience and higher education expertise to my tutoring. I spent seven years teaching in elementary schools, working with students in first, fourth, and fifth grade before becoming a college professor who prepares future teachers to teach reading effectively.
My work focuses on evidence-based literacy instruction, often referred to as the Science of Reading. In my university role, I train teacher candidates to use explicit, systematic methods to help children become successful readers. I also supervise reading clinics where college interns work directly with elementary students to improve their reading skills.
Parents and students can feel confident that my tutoring is grounded in proven instructional practices, not trends or guesswork. I believe every child can become a stronger reader when they receive clear instruction, consistent practice, and encouragement. My goal is always to build both skill and confidence, so students leave each lesson knowing they are making real progress.

My name is Brandon, and I am an education professor and former elementary teacher with seven years of classroom experience in grades 1, 4, and 5. I specialize in evidence-based reading instruction grounded in the Science of Reading. My lessons focus on the key components of skilled reading: phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
A typical lesson includes a short phonemic awareness warm-up, explicit phonics or decoding instruction, guided reading of connected text, and targeted fluency or vocabulary practice. I use clear modeling, guided practice, and immediate feedback so students understand exactly how reading works. I MAKE READING FUN.
My tutoring is designed for elementary students who need support in becoming stronger, more confident readers. Because I also train future teachers in effective reading instruction, I bring both classroom experience and deep knowledge of research-based literacy practices to every lesson.
