About Sara
I am a Psychology graduate, current NHS Assistant Psychologist, and researcher with over three years of combined clinical and research experience. Within the NHS, I have secured four Assistant Psychologist roles across diverse settings, including working with young people excluded from school (PRU), supporting young people within a Youth Justice Service, an acute community adult mental health hub, and a DBT team for children. Alongside this, I have three years’ experience as a Research Assistant, where I secured competitive funding, including from the Wellcome Trust and the Laidlaw Research and Leadership Scholarship. My research has focused on understanding how psychological support can be made more accessible and equitable, and I have extensive experience managing and analysing large datasets using SPSS and R. I have also shared my work publicly, including a pre-registered project on socio-economic status and emotion dynamics: Rahmani & Gillan (2022). This mix of clinical and research work has taught me to communicate complex concepts in a clear and structured way, and to adapt my approach to meet the needs of different people. I bring this same care and clarity into my tutoring.

My tutoring is supportive, practical, and tailored to each student. I know statistics and research methods can feel intimidating, so I break down complex concepts into manageable steps and use real examples to make the material clear and relevant. I am experienced in both SPSS and R, and I often use R programming because it creates consistent outputs and automatically keeps a log of steps taken — which helps students not just solve a problem, but also understand and replicate their work later. Lessons are usually 1 hour but can be longer for project or dissertation support. I work with psychology students at undergraduate and master’s level, supporting them with: Statistics (SPSS, R) Research methods Dissertation design and writing Data analysis and interpretation NHS Assistant Psychologist applications and interviews Guidance on preparing for a future career in Clinical Psychology (e.g., building relevant experience, strengthening applications, and understanding the pathway to the doctorate) My goal is always to build your confidence so you feel capable of applying the skills independently and developing a clear plan for your next steps.
