About Dr James
I am a Lecturer in Psychology with a PhD background and experience supporting undergraduate, and postgraduate students with research methods, analysis, dissertation work, academic writing, and professional development.
I want to teach because I enjoy helping students make sense of topics that can initially feel overwhelming. Psychology, research methods, statistics, and academic writing can feel difficult when they are taught too quickly, or without enough explanation. My aim is to make these areas clearer, more manageable, and more useful.
I particularly enjoy helping students build confidence in their own ability. Whether we are working through SPSS, jamovi, qualitative analysis, dissertation planning, or critical writing, I want students to understand what they are doing, why it matters, and how to apply it independently.
My teaching style is supportive, structured, and encouraging. I care about helping students feel less stuck, more confident, and better equipped to succeed in their studies, and beyond.

My sessions are student-led, supportive, and practical. You can bring the topic, assignment, analysis, feedback, or section of work you are struggling with, and we will focus the session around what you need most.
We can explore theory, break down difficult concepts, work through examples, demonstrate SPSS or jamovi analysis, and develop a clear plan for improving your structure, critical writing, results, discussion, or methodology.
My approach is coaching-based. I will guide you through the process, explain the reasoning behind each step, and help you build confidence, clarity, and independence in your own academic skills.
I do not complete assessed work for students, but I can help you understand what to do, why it matters, and how to move forward more confidently.
