About Lee
What I've discovered as I age, is that while we might forget all manner of superfluous things, we really do remember those who help us, who bring out our gifts, and are there to cheer us on.
I strive to be this sort of teacher, someone who is genuinely interested in those who ask for my assistance; who is approachable, good humoured, and whose goal is to bring out your best.

Who am I?
My name is Lee and I’m here to help you with problems and conundrums related to English - both academic and creative. Words matter and I'm keen to help you make the most of their energy, power and extraordinary versatility.
I've been working as a full time academic editor for the past 14 years. Most of my academic clients have been international students and I have substantial experience in helping students for whom English is their second (and sometimes third) language. I still run a long standing proofreading and editing agency, so am happy to help students with a wide portfolio of assistance related to academic English.
I'm also a keen creative writer, winning writing competitions organised by magazines such as 'Mslexia' and 'Writing', and have just finished writing my first novel. Words are my life-blood and my super power. You are in good hands!
What's my educational background?
Well, I have three degrees including a doctorate; both my undergraduate degrees were funded by competitive AHRC scholarships. My BAhons (from Oxford Brookes University) is in English and Art history, (1st class), while my MA (University of Leeds) is in Gender, Sociology and Social Policy (Distinction). I graduated with a PhD from the University of York with a thesis that looked at Sensing and Language.
Who do I work with?
I am happy to work with a wide variety of clients who are looking to improve their English, either academically, for an essay or thesis, or creatively, for a novel or other creative project. I have considerable experience working with clients for whom English is not their first language, but am available to help native speakers too.

What's in a lesson with me?
I’m a friendly tutor who likes to create a comfortable space where students feel able to absorb information and test out their own ideas. My lessons aren't rigid or formal. I like to get to know my students and respond to them as individuals, not just respond to their problems. Each session is bespoke, designed just for you, so I do ask you to provide me some information about your particular project before hand.
I also think it's important to stress how much I love what I do, this isn’t ‘just’ a job to me. I really care about the students I work with, and hope to impart some of my own enthusiasm for language/critical and creative thinking to them.
