About Wahleed
Over the past fourteen years, I have honed my skills in financial reporting, tax compliance, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Previously as a Senior Financial Accountant, I worked for a technology company, where I reported to the Chief Operating Officer. I was responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring compliance with statutory and grant project reporting requirements.
In my current role, I work for a publicly listed mining company in Canada, where I have successfully led initiatives such as the revenue reporting streamline project, where I successfully reduced time to close from four to two days, a 50% reduction. Allowing more time and resources to be allocated to other tasks. The project involved identifying inefficiencies in the existing processes and creating new valuable reports with the resources available, through software optimization. A standardized report was then formed for all four sites which then would feed into the MD&A, demonstrating my ability to implement effective accounting processes and drive efficiency.
Key highlights of my career include:
• Financial Reporting and Analysis: Developed and managed comprehensive internal financial reports and external financial statements, providing insightful analysis that informed strategic decision-making and improved financial performance.
• Team Leadership: Supervised and mentored a team of finance professionals, fostering a collaborative environment and driving continuous improvement in accounting processes and practices.
• SAP Software Implementation: Instrumental in the migration and implementation of a new ERP system, SAP S/4 Hana, from Sage. Heavily involved in the planning, testing and execution of the implementation. Documentation and development of accounting processes and implementing robust internal controls.
• Budget Management: Led the budgeting process in multiple consortium grant projects, including the preparation and review of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses, contributing to accurate financial planning and resource allocation.
• Compliance: Ensured adherence to accounting principles, regulatory standards, tax compliance and management of statutory audits
During my time in London (UK), I worked in the finance team of a cloud software management technology company, OnApp, for five years. My responsibilities at OnApp involved working on strategic management, development of KPI’s (including MRR, churn rate etc.), financial reporting for a group of companies, consolidation, tax compliance and R&D, grant project management including budget and forecast work and month end reconciliation reviews. Since the company was a relatively new start-up, there were many interesting projects and opportunities to improve processes within the finance function. As it was a newly created senior role it helped my development with responsibilities of management and taking ownership of the role.
I am an experienced and adaptive CPA accountant with a progressive career starting from a small public practice where I learnt the fundamentals of financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, clientele management and regulatory filings. I then secured a position in the financial reporting faculty with a top-tier corporate public practice, providing high standards of training and cross-departmental collaborations including tax, outsourcing and audit. Working at Baker Tilly (RSM) enabled me to gain exposure to more complex and technical accounting.
Possessing a strong understanding of global, full-cycle accounting and controls required to operate an effective finance function in a multi-currency, complex group environment. Having worked with external advisors and internal senior management has allowed me to develop great stakeholder management skills. I have demonstrated my leadership skills in supervising and supporting junior staff in their professional development. My involvement in exciting projects from mergers & acquisitions, sale of operations, consortium projects, establishment of foreign businesses, SAP implementation and more, makes me a well seasoned, senior professional. My valuable experience in training accountants, financial software systems, such as SAP S/4 Hana, combined with my strong analytical skills and group financial reporting, positions me well to excel as a tutor.
