About William
I have been teaching since 2006 at the university, high school, and middle school levels and have taught a wide variety of courses ranging from sixth grade English, ninth grade honors English, British Literature, college composition, rhetoric, business communication, technical writing, and both Advanced Placement Language and Literature. I also have a Master of Arts in English Language Arts Education, and have written three novels.
I was a Public Affairs Specialist for the U.S. Air Force, where I served for 20 years. My Air Force experience included training in journalism, which included writing and editing. I supervised a staff of writers and photographers in the production of a weekly newspaper. This included training, management, and page layout and design.
I also served as a reporter for a major military newspaper, The Pacific Stars and Stripes, based in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

I truly enjoy helping my students become better readers and writers. Becoming a better communicator is essential to success in every field, and I know how to ensure you get there. One-on-one tutoring is one of the best ways to help students reach their goals, and I can be available any time to fit your schedule.
Depending on your needs, I will assess your writing ability and what you want from the session, looking for focus, support, and proofreading. Lessons will focus on each of these, depending on where you need the most help. I will help you develop a simple, practical outline you can use for any writing task. Lessons will also include development of specific support for your focus or thesis. Finally, I will teach you a method to help you accurately and effectively proofread your writing.
If you wish for help with reading, we will approach it just as thoroughly as with writing. lessons will include assessing your ability and determining what you need. Sessions may include effective strategies for pre-reading, annotation, and an approach to handle difficult texts. The goals will be to help you become a more competent reader with the skills and stamina to help you with any reading task.
